I interrupt this regularly scheduled blog to bring you this update.
If you’ve been following the blog pattern this year you’ll realize that this blog (3rd of the month) should be about a myth of interest. Well, I’ve been doing some thinking lately, and here’s what I’ve come up with.
I don’t want to stick to that anymore. I have two main reasons for this.
First, I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about all of the books I want to write in my career. Some of them are inspired by mythology, and some of them just aren’t even close to that realm. When I started the blog, I didn’t really know that. Sure, I had other ideas, but I wasn’t certain in what directions my muse would take me. But, I’ve read a few author business books lately and I’ve realized that I don’t want to build a brand based on a specific genre. I don’t necessarily want my name to bring with it the expectation of mythology-based stories. Don’t get me wrong, I love them and definitely want to write more. But I don’t want to pigeon-hole (sidebar: anyone know where that expression came from? Going to Google it later) myself into one niche.
Second, I haven’t been as excited to blog as I was at the beginning of the year. And if I force myself into it, I know the content isn’t going to be high quality or serve you the way I want it to.
So, what’s this all mean? Well, it means I may write a post occasionally, but I’m no longer promising four blogs a month.
Basically, I have limited time and I need to prioritize the things that I enjoy and that move my work forward. I have to ask myself the question: Would I be better off working on a book/story/other forms of marketing? And in general, I think the answer is yes.
Pivoting is a part of life and art and business, and what’s worked before probably won’t work forever. The structure I created at the beginning of the year served me well up to this point, but it’s time to adapt.
The other posts aren’t going away. You can still find them. I just won’t be updating as frequently as I have been.
Cheers to learning, changing, and growing. Feel free to drop me a comment or send me an email (author@kierstenlillis.com) if you’ve got questions.
